The Empire apple was first developed in the 1940s out of Cornell University, and still represents approx. 60% of New York’s apple production. This varietal produces a medium-sized, crisp and semi-firm fruit, that has a vinous sweetness indicative of it’s McIntosh parentage. This is a typical lunch-box apple, that has a maroon-red flush over a light-green background. Mid-season, Heavy cropper. Moderate disease resistance.
