Physical Attributes:
- Shape: Small-medium round
- Skin: Green with significant russeting.
- Flesh: Creamy, crunchy and firm
Flavour:
Grassy, nutty aromas and a bounty of sweetness and acidity. Delicious, tender, and a reasonable (though less popular) baking apple.
Neat History:
Definitively identified as American Russet by 1845 (Fruit Trees of America) with origins in New York or New Jersey, possibly during the 18th century with some relation to Ashmead's Kernel. There appear to have been about a dozen similarly named apples, but in recent years there are only a couple apples under this name that both ripen in October.
