Old Pearmain
An Old English Favourite to Enjoy all the Winter
[Acid-medium/high; Sugar-medium/low; Tannin-low]
Fresh, Culinary, Cider

Flavour:
Juicy, sweet, rich, full flavoured with a tart crispness with hints of strawberries and red fruits. Often described as ‘old-fashioned’ apple flavour
Neat History:
This cultivar could be as old as 1200, but the first definitive listing was by Alexander Forbes from Kendal, England in 1820. English Pearmains have a semblance of a pear but are shaped in the opposite 'twisted' manner of a pear. It could also be derived from the Old French word “parmaindre” in reference to the long keeping of these apples.
