Physical Attributes:
- Shape: Medium-large round to slightly conical, often irregular
- Skin: Smooth and waxy, yellow background with light red blushing and dark lenticels
- Flesh: Cream coloured, coarse-grained, tender
Flavour:
An invitingly tropical aroma reminds of bananas and pineapples with a mildly sweet and zesty flavour. The flavour does intensify with some storage, but the texture can suffer,
Neat History:
This delightful apple was originally discovered by David Flory in 1876 Cass County, Indiana before its commercial introduction in 1890. It is a speculated Dutch apple transplant (Ulysses Hedrick), and has a “suggestion of musk exclusively the property of this apple” (Systemic Pomology, 1925)

- Precocity: Moderate
- Vigour: Moderate, upright spreading, excellent for trellis and espalier
- Disease Tolerance: Poor
- Zone Hardiness: 3-4 (Map Link) Grows well in hot summers and warm winters
- Pollination Group: IV (Chart) (Diploid, Self-Sterile)
- Cropping: Biennial tendency, moderate crops
- Storage: 2-3 months, bruises easily
- Special Care: Tendency to droop on second year growth, spur-bearing
