Porter's Perfection

            [Acid-very high; Sugar-high; Tannin-medium]

Cider

English Bittersharp

The Porter’s Perfection apple is an English heirloom variety first discovered in the early 19th century in Lambrook, Somerset.  It’s popularity peaked in the early 1900s, however there has been a recent surge in demand due to its popularity in cider-making. The Porter’s Perfection is an English bittersharp, yielding juice with a highly acidic and sharp flavour, with low astringency.  It has been described as having a good balance between its tartness and tannins.  This varietal yields a generally small apple that is full and dark red with pronounced lenticels.  It is a relatively vigorous apple with a heavy crop, however it also has a tendency towards growing bi-annually, as well as for 2 to 4 apples in cluster to fuse together during growing. Known as one of the more disease resistant varietals of the English ciders.
