The McIntosh apple was discovered in Dundela, Ontario, and is known in many circles as the national apple of Canada. This is the improved version from Summerland Varieties Corp, developed in the 1960s. It is a small to medium-sized red-green apple that has both a high amount of sugar and acid, making it both a sweet, and tart apple. It is a medium crisp and tender apple. It is most similar to a Famous, or Snow Apple. Easily bruised. This varietal is moderately vigorous. Good disease resistance, with mild susceptibility to fireblight.
