Description:
The Transparent apple originate in the 1800s out of Russia, and is still quite a popular apple in Nordic and Slavic countries. This varietal is sometimes referred to as the ‘glass apple’, due to its uniquely thin skin, making it look almost translucent. The Transparent grows a medium to large fruit with pale yellow skin, and has a fine juicy flesh that tastes both sweet and tart. This is an eating apple, but is traditionally cooked down to a fine and cream coloured puree. Very early season, late-July. Very winter hardy. Biannual cropping tendency. Good vigour. Good cropper. Moderate disease resistance, especially resistant to scabbing, however is susceptible to fireblight. Zone hardiness 3. Does not store well, especially when picked ripe.
Not self-pollinating.
